Hello People!

I realize it's been over a year since my last video blog, and I need to apologize for that. This past year has been a crazy one, but I am getting this blog back on track! This post is brief as I am preparing some other things to post on here over the next few days. I've had multiple requests for a video blog on doing a smokey eye, both subtle and dramatic. Last weekend I did makeup for 2 different women both of whom I did a smokey eye for. Though I don't have pictures to share (camera was broken), I do have a brief synopsis of the makeup I did for these two lovely ladies.

The first was a smokey eye for day or evening. She wanted something subtle because she doesn't wear much makeup, and when she does, she likes a natural look. The goal with that smokey eye was to create a look that could be worn to work or for going out, without too much intensity. We went for a gray, black and pink combination with no mascara.

The second was a dramatic smokey eye for evening with lots of pizazz. She wanted a dramatic effect that would make her eyes pop. We did a similar color scheme with this eye makeup to create a look that could be worn out on the town or for a dressy event. The big difference with this look was the intense mascara as well as darker shades of gray and pink, and we went heavier on the black.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for the delay in posting! It's been a hectic few months out here. I had planned on the "Your Natural Face" series to last only 6 weeks, but it seems to be taking longer. Business is taking off quite a bit over here, but I promise I will continue the series very soon, when I have some time to sit down and put together a video. Please continue to check back for updates on the blog here, and send me any and all questions and/or comments you have.

Winter Skin Care

Hello everyone, and belated happy new year!

I hope that even during this awful and cold winter weather everyone is still taking care of their skin. For example, are you putting sunscreen/sunblock of at least SPF 15 on your skin everyday? Or, did you decide that now that it's not warm that means that the sun doesn't come out anymore? Remember, even when the weather is cold and it's not sunny out, YOU CAN STILL GET SUNBURNED! Your skin is the largest organ that your body possesses, please take care of it! It's super important to put sunscreen/sunblock on your skin every single day of the year whether it's cold out or warm out, sunny or overcast.

One of the most common oversights that people have is not putting sunscreen/block on year round. Most people I've met believe that when the sky is overcast that means that the clouds are blocking the sun from us, therefore our skin is already protected (or something along those lines). SO WRONG! The only thing that will protect you from sunburn is an SPF 15 or higher sunblock or sunscreen.

Protecting your skin from the sun will have many health benefits as well as beauty benefits. Keeping your skin protected will assist in preventing certain types of skin cancer, signs of aging, and the all powerful, SUNBURN. It is important to get some sun time in everyday so that your body still gets its ultra important Vitamin D. Rest assured that this message is not to discourage you from spending ANY time in the sun, it is simply to suggest you spend a shorter amount of time in the sun. If you put sunblock/screen on everyday underneath your foundation and on top of your moisturizer, you are bound run into fewer sun problems. Another great suggestion, in order to take out a few steps in your morning routine, is to find a foundation with an SPF built in OR a moisturizer with an SPF built in. Be sure to remember that putting on two different SPF's will NOT heighten the affect of the SPF. Adding 2 SPF's together does not equal a higher #.

What Massage Therapy is.... and isn't.

Massage Therapy has long been misconstrued as something other than what is truly is. Frequently, people misunderstand the meaning of what massage is, and often times see it as a form of erotic touch, which it is not. Professional massage therapy is performed by a licensed, certified or registered Massage Therapist (depending on what state in the US you are receiving your massage).

Be sure that your massage therapist is professionally trained by a school accredited by COMTA (The Commition on Massage Therapy Accreditation). Your therapist should either have a certificate or licensed issued to them. There are still a number of states in the US that do not regulate massage therapy, so a certificate or license is not required in those states. It is still a good idea to be sure that your therapist has professional training even if the state you are in does not require a license or certificate.

A professional Massage Therapist will respect your privacy, your body, and your questions. When you are receiving your massage, you will be completely covered at ALL TIMES. When your therapist is working on you, the only part of your body that will be exposed is the part of your body that is being worked on at that moment. For example: if your therapist is working on your leg, your entire body will be covered EXCEPT for the leg the therapist is working on. Same for arms and back. The therapists hands will never go under the sheet to touch any part of your body that is not exposed.

It is up to you, the client, to decide to what level you choose to undress. It is standard for the therapist to tell you to undress to your personal comfort level. This may mean removing undergarments if that is most comfortable, or leaving undergarments on if that is more comfortable, this decision is yours as the client to make. The therapist will step out of the room while you undress to give you privacy. It is never appropriate for a therapist to remain in the room while you undress, this is a red flag. You will be asked to get underneath the sheets, and either lay on your back or your stomach.

There are many things that a person may experience during a massage, such as emotional and physical releases. Some examples may be, crying, laughing, drooling, runny nose, passing gas, or even falling asleep. All of these examples are perfectly normal, very common releases that people experience. It is very important to listen to your body and accept all of its reactions.

Individual experiences will be different, and every massage therapist will be different and it is very important to remember this when you go for your massage. There are a number of different types of massages that you can receive, including some that require you to be fully clothed, some examples are: Shiatsu and Thai Massage. Remember to speak up during your massage if you find you are experiencing any pain at all and if you feel that your therapist is using too much or too little pressure. It is perfectly normal to ask for less pressure (whether you are a man OR a woman) or to ask for more pressure. The therapist won't know your pressure tolerance unless you tell them.

One of the most important things to keep in mind, is that there are no silly questions, and it is very important to ask about anything you are unsure of.

There are many reasons why it is good for you to get a massage and why it is a service that should be worked into your everyday life. For starters, what a fantastic way to relax! When you get a massage, you allow someone else to do the work for you. You allow someone else's hands to work out the kinks in your muscles. Getting a massage is also a great way to increase blood flow, and as well as lymph flow. Massage is also great for many illnesses, one to take note of is Fibromyalgia. After the gym when you've worked your muscles to their fullest extent, getting a massage is a great way to help release the tightening of the muscles that occurs after a lengthy workout.

Why not take care of your body the way it should be taken care of. There are many massage therapists out there and it's an important investment in your overall health.
